Rammy's 2025 Finalist: Rising Culinary Star – Pitmaster Fernando González
Rising Culinary Star of the Year 🥩🔥
There’s smoke in the air — and it’s not just from the pit. We’re proud (and downright giddy) to share that our very own Fernando González, pitmaster and co-founder of 2Fifty BBQ, has been named a finalist for “Rising Culinary Star of the Year” in the 2025 RAMMY Awards!
This category shines a spotlight on chefs who aren’t just cooking — they’re shaping the future of food in the DC area with talent, vision, and leadership. And if you’ve ever tasted Fernando’s brisket or caught him tending the fire before sunrise, you know: this guy’s got all three.
“Barbecue is a craft that demands patience. You’re not just making food — you’re telling a story,” Fernando says. “To be nominated alongside such incredible talent, and to represent BBQ in this kind of culinary space… it’s surreal. And it’s an honor.”
Fernando has spent years mastering the art of Texas-style smoking, blending it with his Salvadoran roots and that signature 2Fifty touch — a pinch of the tropics. He’s one of five finalists in this year’s category, including standout chefs from Daru, Hiraya, Shilling Canning Company, and Mita.
This nomination isn’t just about one person — it’s about proving that BBQ belongs in the same conversation as any other high-level culinary craft. That low-and-slow isn’t just a method… it’s a movement.
“I hope this shows that barbecue, when it’s done with intention and soul, deserves to be seen and celebrated at the highest levels.”
We’re so proud of Fernando and this recognition. Check out the full list of RAMMY Rising Star finalists in Washingtonian:
